When I got to Yokosuka I was assigned to Guard Co and was there for three weeks before I went out to the Rifle Range and talked to TSgt Paul Cross. I went to work soon after and worked at the rifle and pistol ranges as long as I was in Japan. In the almost three years I was there, I met and became friends with a large number of Marines, some of them became life long. Anyone who was there when someone put the shark repellent in the fish pond would remember. Some of the guys I remember best were... Sgt Don Fraser, Sgt Doug Joiner, Sgt R.E. Lewis, Sgt C.E. Waggle, Sgt James E Roberts and lots more. To many to mention. We were a wild bunch in those old days when we were range rats.

I arriverd in Japan in late 1954, 3rd Mar Div, Camp Gifu...then to Camp McGill/Takiyama. From there I was transferred to Marine Barracks, Yokosuka, MP Company, in early 1956. I worked city patrol and the Main Gate. I did a short stint with the base Seahawks football team, and joined the barracks Drum & Bugle Corps when SSgt Bill Cox took over. I was there until around March 1958. I have quit a few photos that I will try to scan and e-mail to the website. Maybe some of you will see some familiar faces.

DONZAWOJSKI@cs.com
I arrived to Yokosuka from Korea in 1954, Col L.F. Chapman was the C.O. and Lt.Col Wright was the Ex.Off.. It was a very shocking experiece leaving Korea and going to such a spit and polish out fit Col Chapman was all Marine. I served Ballanger and Ameral , he saved my hide a few times in Hinnodicho. We had a good barracks and I loved it. I came back to yokosuka in 1962, but it was a whole new ballgame. The Marines no longer were MP's and the Navy had taken it over. I was a markmanship instructer at our rifle range which then was at Takayama, close to Camp McGill, which was good because I had govt. housing at Nagai Heights. Please call me at donzawojskics.com

I was stationed at Marine Barracks Yokosuka from 8/76 to 8/78. I worked in the 1st and 3rd Security Sections. I mostly did roving patrol around the base and C-39 security. It was great duty. I wish I had taken in more of the culture than I did. while I was there. I do have aerial photos of Yokosuka. If you interested in them, let me know. I'll e-mail some of them. I also have a home page with one paticular page on Yokosuka Marnes who were there around the same time, including the one and only SgtMaj. MacCormack. He's retired living in Oregon. Also Retired Gunny Sgt Jones, and Retired GunnySgt Boone as well. Let me know if you know them and would like to contact them.

I first came to Japan as a 17 year old Pfc. assigned to Marine Barracks Atsugi. I first had a memorable day, 30 days after being assigned to the Brig as a turn key. I had to go to Yokosuka to take a prisoner to the brig at Yoko, a red line brig it was. The firt person I meant there was Sgt. Maj. John Latanzio who later in life was Sgt. Maj, 1st MAW Danang 1968, but that's another story. He showed me around the barracks and was always at home there, even with Cool Chapman breathing down every bodies throats, like revaly, 500 am , him there with duty NCO, wow, what a guy. Any one who served there and Ataugi are welcome to mail me. Semper Fi!

The Marine Barracks in Yokosuka was my first duty station. I did alot of growing up over there. I met several great people, but unfortunatly over time I've lost touch with 99% of them. I was (and still am) big into the martial arts, and I taught classes on apprehension techniques to the Marines and FACP there. I stood post #1 alot, which was the main gate guard. I have many good memories of slamming and cuffing out of line sailers, lol. I'd love to find some of the old Marine buddies I was stationed with there. If you knew me then please drop my a line to say hi.

To whom it may concern, I'm in need of some assistance in regards to the Marine Barracks Yokosuka. I was stationed in the Marine Barracks back from 1990-1991 and I was looking to form a pen-pal of sorts. I'm exactly sure if the Barracks is there any longer. Honestly I've been wanting to replace my lucky red US Marines Japan sweatshirt but alas to no avail. I've tried looking on MWR online but they don't seem to have anything remotely similar. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jose Casillas, CPL / USMC Veteran, SK3 / USNR, 8359 Woodward St., Overland Park, KS 66212
