Cpl. William L. Ivey, 67 - 68
seattlekid@webtv.net

I was stationed there from 6-67 to 9-68. Worked at the Gate, Brig, and on the Escort Detail. I am so excited about site. Any more information on T.I., I would love to know about, especially former Marines stationed there, and any possible reunions coming up.

I worked as a CPL in the Legal Section of MB HQ from Jan60 - Dec62, having come to TI from Okinawa as a reenlistment option.  Needless to say, it was one helluva tour of duty, with the de-lights of San Francisco trying to seduce you to visit on liberty.   Ended up making the Corps a career.  Have fond memories of "invading" Angel Island during infantry training exercises.

H&SCo, Separations Section, MB, TI SanFran, 1964 - 1965

I was assigned to MB TI during the period noted.  When I first arrived I was a carrying a "new" secondary MOS of 0141, just having squeezed through AdminClerks School CpPen (48 of 48 - but hell, somebody had to come last!).  I was tested and typed a blazing 28 wpm).  I originally "tried out" for the Legal Section and after about a month was strongly encouraged to transfer to the Separations Section, which I did.  Some of the people of the Section (name spelling possible): 1Lt Lafarrier;  Sgt (Sully) Sullivan;  Sgt Salvidore Zavalla;  Sgt Frances Xavier ______; CPL Sidney (Tom-Tom) Toms-Detriot Michigan; PFC Hollis Ward, PFC Danny Wert; and others I can visualize, but can't quite remember their names.  A guy assigned to supply:  Charlie Metzger;  and American Indian Bud Tapido; a transit for discharge WM, Barabara McAnally;  an Army Presidio medical personnel, Paula Schmidt. This was the best duty I ever had during my tour.  I belonged to the U.S.Army Presidio Sport Parachute Club and made 13 jumps.

Corporal Thomas J. Chiricos, 1975 - 1976
colerkjr@yahoo.com

I served on Treasure Island 1975-1976 as a Marine Corporal MP. I directed traffic at the main gate. Stayed in the barracks (old) right adjacent to the fountain (unrestored then) down along the main drive on the SF Bay/Alcatraz side about 3/4 down and turn right. The star shaped multiwing barracks (two of them) were right across from ours. This was Navy enlisted. I also worked for a short while in the Brig Bldg. #222. It was the old draft horse stables used during construction prior to 1939. A good friend of mine Lance Corporal Esidoro Agular lost his life on TI. Another friend , Cpl. Charles McMahon, left TI for Embassy Duty. He attended Embassy School in the Wash. DC area and then drew Viet Nam as his duty post. Of all the beautiful Embassies and the glory duty at them, he was unlucky enough to draw this cesspool and lost his life during a rocket attack during the evacuation in 1975. He was billed at Ton son Nuit (sic) air field.

I have many fond memoried of TI. It had one of the best EM Clubs for miles around. Girls used to stack up at the gate to get in. As gentlemen Marines, we always found sponsers to sign them on base. I saw the 35th . reunion USO show on TI with Bing Crosby, Mel Blanc (Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny,Elmer Fud, Etc.) I met and have a picture of Jerry Ford on TI just before Squeeky Frohm tried to assainate him in S.F. I was on duty when Patty Hearst was captured and had the FBI Agent (who assisted) autograph her wanted poster when He came to the base to eat lunch at the Officers Club. I think this is the Agent who married her! It was my bank in SF that the SLA shot a hole in the brass plate in the revolving door.

I was discharged from TI on Mar. 1, 1976. Stayed in Ca. until 1977 Lived in Alameda on Poggi St. and married a Wave from TI. Went on base as a dependant and shopped the PX and Commisary often and made my former Marines bow down to me!!! They did not have to salute because I was Enlisted. I have a photo of me commanding an Honor Guard with National Colors in front of the main building on right. This was the HQ 12 th. Naval District.Lots of fond memories of the best base Ive ever been to. Good chow, civilian cooks! Former Corporal Thomas J. Chiricos Harrisburg,Pa.

cainrobert@sbcglobal.net

Was stationed on TI in 1961 to 1962, worked as a Brig Gd., Cross Country Chaser, & the Col's driver.  Col. F. E. West was the Co.  I remember a Cpl. Albert Gordon Square who was snake bite while on leave, didn't have a knife to open the wound so the shot a 30 cal round into his leg to open the wound.  Really a nice man. Spent lots of time at the Globe&Anchor room 4th floor Marines Memorial Club, bartender was named LOU, he never forgot your name or your drink. Also met my wife there.   I played football for the Navy team, did well enough to be transferred to MCRD San Diego to play for the Marine Corps team 1963, 64.  Got out of the Corps in 1965 to play ball for BYU. We had eleven members of the Marine team recurited for college football. When the VN war started I reenlisted and went to VN with L btry 4 Bn 11Mar. Retired in 1980 as a MasterSgt. My name is Robert D. Cain would love to heard from anyone who was stationed with me. Semper Fi.
