Memories of Sabana Seca 78-79, Capt Kelly (Ret MGEN), Capt Linn (Ret LtCol), SSgt Abbott (Ret CWO5), Sgt Malone (Ret SgtMaj), Sgt Anderson (Ret MSgt), LCpl Knox (1stSgt), LCpl Bob Berg (Ret GySgt), and so many other great Marines that served at the toughest Barracks in the Corps. Thursday morning inspection/office hours, Morning colors, Roving patrol, Snoop and poop, The club, Smokers, BA, Post 8, Guard Mount, sleep walking, Mid Chow w/Land-crabs, Birthday Ball, CT's and Seabees, crawling through the Cow fields, and checking post in my LCpl dress whites.....After 22 active years serving around the glob the memories of the Guard Unit are to most profound, truly love and hate, good times and bad. Some of the best Marines I would ever serve with.

I too have many memories of Sabana Seca from 86-88.  I would love to hear from anyone who I served with, or any marine stationed there.  It seems like yesterday I was walking post 2 and 2A checking the monkey farm.  If anyone knows where Sgt. Irizzary is, please let me know.  I went back to the base last year and was saddened to find our barracks turned into a coed navy barracks.  I walked in through the Quarter Deck entrance to find the armory window sealed shut.  I have a few pictures to share and If you have any I would love to see them.

I was stationed at Marine Barracks R.R in 1962/63, I would like to get in contact with any one stationed there at that time, especially P.F.C. Bob Ackerman from New Jersey.  When we were there, only Gates 1, 2, and 3 were available, I'm sure that has changed, as well as the Landscape. I'm not familiar with some of the other terms used in some of the letters I've read.  At the time we were there, and hopefully since then, It's been the most professional, most disciplined, and sharpest Marine Barracks in the world. It was a great place to be stationed and a great time to be there, I had a lot of friends there, but then vietnam, and we all know what happened then. Thanks for putting this website together and thanks for the memory's.

TopMsgtpla@aol.com

I was stationed at Roosevelt Roads, as the Commanding Officer's Driver (LtCol Stumpf - retired). I really enjoyed my 18 months there. I have been in contact with Major Kelley (BGen - retired), Lcpl Lapaix (Ltcol/Col select USMCR), SgtMajor Stoner (retired), and LtCol Stumpf (retired). I spoke to Sgt Carole Bruce (WO4 - retired), about a year ago, but lost contact with her. I wonder what has happened to the most of us who were there - SSgt Cantrall (SgtMajor), Sgt Lugo, Lcpl Cochran, Cpl Sandra Dormer, Lcpl Donna Sanders, to name a few. Hopefully, I'll be able to find most, so we can have a reunion. Sempre Fi!

Paul E. Ostby, 1982 - 1983

puma007@bellsouth.net

Good Day Marine(s)!! My name is Paul Ostby, and I was a Nco/Cpl and the Unit Armorer for Marine Barracks, Roosevelt Roads and Sebana Seca. My time was between mid 1982 thru late 1983, I don't have the exact dates, I'm at work but will provide them later on, also have pictures of the time I was there as well from both Barracks. My CO was Col. Vasquez, Supply Officer- Capt Deihl, 1st Sgt Candelario. I had a good time there. Saw alot of beautiful ladies, learned how to snorkel. I also played Santa Claus for the dependant children of the Barracks, dressed up and was I hot as heck in about 90 degree weather. :-)  I also spent time with a christian organization off base. Mostly miliary personnel was part of the group. Did alot of interesting tours, like El Yunqui and Old Fort in San Juan. I spent alot of time on the road between Rosy Roads and Seca, especially since we were under orders to go in civilian attire whenever we were off base. PR based terrorist cells, the Machateros, were active and the FALN also. The FALN had hit several base armories stateside before I had come down to Rosy.

"Good Morning Puerto Rico"  As the first Marine broadcaster assigned to the Armed Forces Caribbean Network I had the privilege of showing the Navy how the Marine Corps rose each morning, well for a little while anyway.  That was until GySgt Jerry Walker and Cpl Dave Novak arrived and I was told my services on radio were no longer required. As a SSgt at the time I found Roosie Roads to be one of, if not the best duty station I served at.  Lets see, when I was there the CO was Col. Timmes and he was relieved by Col. Black.  The SgtMaj was Thorton and he was relieved by SgtMaj Stoner.  I would like to hear from anyone who was there during that time frame.

Hello anybody - Just found out this Fall that Roosey Roads will be closing March 31st, 2004.  PFC. Pete Weiss and I are going to visit the Naval Station in Dec 2003.  The Command (or what's left of  it) is giving us permission to come aboard the Naval Station for one hour.  Seems like it took close to half an hour just to get to Bundy from Gate 1.  Anyway, if they permit us to take pictures, we will, and hopefully we can post some on this site. Anybody from that long ago era still around?

I served in Marine Barracks, Rosy Roads during 1976,77,78. I am Scott Parker, (Cpl Parker).  I bunked with a buddy from Florida (Chris Sova, Cpl Sova).  I have been in touch with him once maybe 5 years ago, he's doing great!  I was Col Black's driver for about 6 months while I was there.  I remember some more guys, Gary Packard, Jack Grizzel from Georgia, Lloyd Waters from SC(was a cook),Sgt Cruz, Sgt Major Thorton, that drove the VW painted Marine colors. He was relieved by Sgt Major Stoner.  My son is 19 years old and is leaving for Parris Island March 15, 2004.   Who remembers the Bicentennial 1976 Marine Core Ball?   It's great to hear from you, hope you are doing well! Write back! Scott Parker (Cpl) South Carolina Semper Fi
