I was an E-4 at discharge, E-2 while in Iceland, Arrived in Iceland on December 18th, 1979, Departed on December 18th, 1980. I would love to hear from fellow Marines who served in Iceland. I was stationed there from Jan77 to June78. I really met alot of good Marines up in Kef, and I wish to hear from them soon. I got involved in weightlifting and bodybuilding there, thanks to GYSGT. Cook. I later went on to Quantico, VA to further my interest in that field. Since, I have entered into competition and placed 5th in the state championship here in colorado. It was really a unique stay in Kef and believe it or not I miss the commrodity we had as a unit. I hope to hear from you Marines soon. At the time I was an E-3 going up to an E-4. Lets get in touch.

Was stationed on "the rock" from Feb 85 - Feb 86, 1st Section, Guard. I didn't realize how much fun I had up there until I left. Went on to Charlie 1/8 for the remainder of my enlistment. Anyone remember the party pictures the 1st Sgt found?

Hello, My name is Herb Whitesell. I was stationed in Iceland, Marine Barracks, back in 1972 for 13 months. Since the end of the cold war, I was wondering if the Marine Barracks was still there and still guarding the Naval areas. I would like to be able to email Marines there and asked what the duty is like there now and compare with what it was like when I was there. Thank you!

SSgt Joel Weber,
weber_96@yahoo.com
I am SSgt Joel Weber. I am currently the Guard Chief at Marine Corps Security Force Company. I am not sure what year this Company changed from Marine Barracks to this current Security Force Company. The Marines are alive and well and acting like Marines. Although, this place has changed from a 400 man Barracks to a 50 man Company, we are carrying on the tradition of the Polar Bear. We still do the Polar Bear Plunges and still run on the "shortest" and "longest" day of the year. Semper Fi to all the Marines who came before and to all the Marines who carry on.
